The surprise from my garden

Thinking my cat had finally caught himself a fledgling bird on it's first flight from our homemade bird house I ran outside to capture then return the chickadee. How astonished was I to discover that it was instead a young mouse, thick with cat drool and positively beside himself with fright. Now what was I to do? I couldn't let my cat down him in one gulp (as he was probably full of worms or other such fowl crawlies) so I scooped him into my water glass where he calmly peered out and over the rim with sweet disposition and a doe-eyed blinkless stare as any mouse should give it's captor when being rescued.

Depositing him in our woodpile, sure to infest our garage in the days to come with other cute faced, (probably disease ridden) wee little ones I gave myself over to laughter. My cat, not having seen me take his prize, spent the next couple of hours amusing himself by the garden - waiting for the elusive mouse's return!

  2. Your illo is so cute but I am usually horrified when I see mice in real life. Plus, I see RATS here when I am in the subway...eeek!

BTW I've given you an award over at my blog. Cheers!

  3. Reg- thanks!
Chickengirl - Ewwww, rats! I've only ever seen one in my life and I screamed like I was in a horror movie. The province in Canada where I live actually has a "rat patrol" on the borders of the province in whose sole duty is to find and kill rats... Alberta claims to be rat free. Weird fact, no?
ps Thanks for the award! I'll come and claim it right away!

  4. Cue sketch! You are that little mouses hero!

I was watching my cat one day dance around at the edge of our yard, know he saw something. He went back and forth for about 10 minutes, until he finally jumped quickly into the brush and came out with a young rabbit!! I ran over and grabbed the cat, but he refused to let go. So, I gave him a pop on his side, which caused him to release the rabbit, who was thankfully unharmed. The rabbit hopped slowly back into the brush, but I had to carry my cat away as he was still "on patrol." I fed him a can of food so he could get his meat fix!

  6. My son caught a little mouse yesterday. He was cute too. I had a hard time deciding what to do with it as well. I thought he was cute but knew there would be trouble if I let him go. We decided on a field far away from the houses.

    Cute little mouse you drew.
